Graham CookWho We Are

Graham Cook – Founder & CEO
Chartered FCIPD, MInstLM, MIoEE, Cert Ed

Graham first became involved with USA based Therapeutic Wilderness Programmes over 9 years ago when he was approached by a UK based client to assist with the placement of a 13 year old “troubled teenager” who was causing severe disruption to the family unit. This led to a detailed analysis of the wilderness industry and proved to be the start of a journey that has led to friendships and working relationships with some of the finest and most dedicated professionals in their own field. Almost by default Graham has become a leading expert in the intricate workings of this amazing industry.

He started corporate life in Local Government but he soon switched to the Finance and Automotive sectors. Following a highly successful career with Ford Motor Company he held a number of Director / General Manager positions with major Automotive Groups and Independent Finance Companies. Since 2007 he has worked as a Business / HR & Education Consultant engaged on projects in the UK, Canada and the USA.

An experienced Coach and Trainer he has a great empathy with young people and a genuine desire to help them into the world of work and to see them climb the career ladder. Graham has owned and run a number of businesses so he can identify and empathise with the real challenges now facing the self-employed and SME’s in the current economic climate.

He is an Associate Lecturer at Northumbria Business School, where his area of specialism includes HR, Leadership & Management and Graduate Employability. Graham is a member of the Society of Education Consultants.

Graham has previously acted as an External Consultant to Venture Trust of Scotland, where he has helped develop and launch their Wilderness Programme, now delivered by their non-profit offshoot Venture Mor.

Outside of work, he is a Director of Northumberland Credit Union and an Honorary Life Member of Children North East. He spent a number of years as a Lay Member of Northumberland Local Safeguarding Children Board. He is a past Captain of Morpeth Golf Club.

“Once I had made the decision to send my son to the USA, Graham was a constant source of support. When we felt the the service we were receiving was not what we expected he acted as an intermediary. I found him highly effective and professional at all times. Dealing with challenging problems within your family can be very stressful and indeed isolating. Graham was always there on the other end of the phone offering a friendly ear and deep understanding of the issues and challenges we were facing.”
